Termocandelaria S.A. is a thermoelectric dual fuel power plant located in Cartagena, Colombia. It has an installed capacity of 324 MW composed by two turbines that con operate either with natural gas or fuel oil.
Colombia’s electric system largely depends on hydropower as a source of energy generation given the country’s climate, and high levels of hydro capacity. Given that hydroelectric power plants’ storage capacity (reservoirs) is not enough to supply power during the dry season, the country relies on THERMAL GENERATION during those periods.
