Termoeléctrica Barranquilla S.A. E.S.P. is a natural gas combined-cycle thermoelectric power plant. TEBSA has a total installed capacity of 959 MW: one Alstom block of 843 MW and two Siemens units with a total capacity of 116 MW. It is located in Barranquilla, Colombia, a strategic region with authorization for security generation.
TEBSA covers near 12% of Colombia’s national electric demand and 45% of the Caribbean demand. Colombia’s electric system largely depends on hydropower as a source of energy generation given the country’s climate, and high levels of hydro capacity. Given that hydroelectric power plants’ storage capacity (reservoirs) is not enough to supply power during the dry season, the country relies on THERMAL GENERATION during those periods.
